It is important to protect items which are of value to you.  Here are a few basic tips to follow to ensure that your home is secure against intruders.

1) The majority of thefts that occur are by chance.  These occur when a window is left open, or a there is easy access through a garage door, or even something as simple as leaving the front door unlocked.  Opportunist burglars will notice these security errors and taken advantage of an easy break in.  Ensuring that everything is locked is the first stage of keeping your home safe and secure.

2) If you are on holiday or away for the weekend leaving, you should never leave an answer phone message on your phone stating that you are away.  This may seem simple but it will give a potential burglar information on the duration of your absence.

3) Invest in an alarm system.  Again, this may seem like a simple suggestion but it has proven an invaluable deterrent against burglaries.  Not only will the noise alert neighbours to the threat, but in most cases it will also scare the burglar in to abandoning their task.

Although these tips may seem basic, it is important that due consideration is taken with regards to securing your home.  Even the simplest of things may prevent a potential burglar taking items of value, sentimental or other, from your home.
