Burglaries in the UK occur more regularly than you would think.  This is particularly the case in the recent years when the economy has taken a sudden sharp hit.

The recession has meant that many people are struggling for money, and because of this are becoming desperate.  Hence the increase in the numbers of thefts and burglaries throughout homes in the UK.

However opportunists looking for a quick entry through and open window or unlocked door are not the only threat to home owners.  And many more experienced burglars target certain locations and homes for specific reasons such as expensive cars.

In these circumstances, homes are at the most risk when families go on holidays and leave the house unoccupied for a significant period of time.

Therefore, it is important that your house is protected whilst you are away. And by this I don't mean protecting your belongings with contents insurance (however this is also very important).

By this I actually mean investing in a home security system.  This can include security alarms or CCTV cameras.  You  might also want to think about checking all your locks are secure and effective.

With regards to your belongings, the first thing you need to do is keep them out of sight.  The next thing you need to do is purchase a home security safe.
This can be hidden away or placed in the bottom of your wardrobe depending on what suits your needs best.  These safes are perfect for storing car keys, money and important documents.

By following this advice you can be safe in the knowledge that you are doing everything possible to protect both your home and its contents from the potential threat of burglars.
